Project Description
The Project on Uttar Pradesh Power Distribution Network Rehabilitation Project is being implemented by Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank. The Project involves conversion of rural low voltage distribution network (bare conductors) to Aerial bundled cable (ABC) in PuVVNL and MVVNL and separation of 11 KV feeder line in PVVNL and DVVNL. Approximately, 583 km of ABC conversion involving 535 habitations fall within eleven notified eco-sensitive zones (ESZ). Though ABC conversion may reduce the risk of electrocution of avifauna, the risk of bird collision remains. To ensure that the impact of the project works on biodiversity is minimum and adequate mitigation measures are adopted, a study is required to be done by an Institution of repute or subject expert, having relevant expertise and experience.
Objective of the study is to identify potential impacts of the project activities within ESZ boundaries on the faunal species especially avifaunal (including migratory birds) and arboreal and recommend measures to avoid, mitigate and / or compensate the impacts and/ or loss.
