Job Description
The specialist will work closely with the ADB project team leader, ADB gender team, and project
management office (PMO) established in Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company. S/he will be responsible
for the overall implementation, documentation and reporting of gender activities. The specialist will
also provide guidance to the project team for gender mainstreaming in all project activities.
Project Description
The State of Karnataka is implementing the Bengaluru Smart Energy Efficient Power Distribution Project
with Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) financial assistance. The Government of Karnataka, Energy Department is the executing agency and the Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) is the implementing agency for the project. In line with the ADB Gender Guidelines (2021), the project includes specific targets that support the participation and empowerment of women. ADB is seeking to engage a gender specialist to support BESCOM to plan, implement, monitor, document the gender activities envisaged under the project for maximising benefits of the investment to women.
Screening Criteria 1
"The specialist must have at least 10 years of work experience with 8 years relevant experience in mainstreaming gender and/or GESI in development projects, preferably in energy sector projects"
Screening Criteria 2
"Demonstrated experience in undertaking stakeholder consultations and GESI analysis of corporate policies and practices; minimum relevant master’s degree in social science or gender and development, or related fields"
Screening Criteria 3
"Excellent written communication skills in English; and experience of working in southern States for at least 2 years."
Screening Criteria 4
"Experience in similar assignments in other bilateral and multilateral funded projects, including ADB, will be an advantage."
